Cinematography

In this magazine the picture is a medium shot. This shows the body language and emotion in closer detail. The expression on this artist's face shows a serious and moody attitude fitting which is popular in indie rock magazines. There is also a slight anger in the artists face which extend the effect of the body language that of her arms covering some/most of her body. This causes a barrier and causes the audience to be shut out, this then leads the audience to be more intrigued and want to read about the artist. The framing on this shot is open and this shows the carefree nature of the nature of genre and artists involved. The eye line of the artist looks directly to the camera this allows the audience to connect with the artist on a higher level making the magazine appeal to them more personally. The depth of field is narrow so the background is blurred and the main feature of the picture in this case the model/artist. This makes the artist stand out adding to the magazine grabbing the audiences eye.

The contents page uses a long shot to show the relationship between the two artists photographed. The image show a close relationship as they are sitting on the same stool leaning on one another. Both artist are looking directly towards the camera and have a good leveled eye line which the reader can connect with. The framing is open and the background pain this suggest how the artist are free and uncontrolled. The depth of field is not a prominent as on the cover this could be because the image is in back and white so the dark clothing allows the artists to stand out without and blurring of the background detail.

The double page spread image is a medium shot. Similarly to the long shot it shows the connection between the band member is close, as they are in a group. The framing for this is also open framing emphasising the freedom of the artist in the indie rock genre. The eye line of the artists is direct to the camera showing their emotion to the audience. The background for the image is plain so depth of field is not narrow meaning the back features are not blurred as the artists already stand out.

Depending on the location of the picture the different elements are slightly changed but in general the things that stay the same is the framing in indie rock magazines most if not all of the shots used of the artists are open framed.
