Reflection on textual research and skills development

Summary of textual research

In my textual research I have looked at many different elements of indie rock magazines. Most if not all the magazines in this genre have a bold theme catching the audiences eye, therefore attracting them to the magazine. The colour pallet is limited using simple colours (red, black, white and occasionally an additional bright colour) that complement and also contrast with each other. The image on the front cover is almost always high key ephasising the bright/boldness of the colour pallet. The eyeline of the artist is always direct to the camera on the cover allowing the audience to connect it the artist on a higher level.

10 things im going to include in my magazine:

  • A plain white background.
  • A red and white logo.
  • The images will have direct eyeline to the audience.
  • In medium/close up shot for the front cover of the magazine.
  • Clear columned layout n contents page.
  • Not too much blank space on any of the pages.
  • Keep the colours simple.
  • Have a clear easy to read font.
  • Ensue that the photography looks professional.
  • Ensue models fit the genre.
